Hike it up, baby

Have you ever started doing something and suddenly think holy eff I am a crazy lunatic?
Like that time I sky dived with Lil Wayne?!

Actually that never happened but would you die if I told you it really did happen?

But what REALLY happened, was Kurt and I hiking a mountain in the snow.

I consider myself “semi-outdoorsy.” I like to ski, hike, be outside. Don’t be fooled. I don’t spend weeks at a time living in a tent eating dried food, braiding my overgrown leg hair or making animal noises. But I like the great outdoors.

This past weekend, Kurt and I ventured up to the White Mountains in New Hampshire. It’s about a 3 hour drive North from Boston, but let me tell you it’s 1000% worth the drive. Our plan was to hike halfway up Mount Washington to Tuckerman’s Ravine. Mount Washington is the highest peak in the Northeast. We hiked to the summit 2 years ago in September and it was a total trip up and down of about 8 hours. Can you say leg pains? Can you also say bitchy temper tantrum throwing girlfriends?

But since we went early November, we were only able to hike to Tuckerman’s Ravine because it was snowing and icing and there was no way in HELL I was going to hike to the top.

Halfway up as it started to blizzard, I had to laugh and ask myself why we were crazy mother effers hiking a mountain in the snow. Then I think I stomped my feet and said I wasn't hiking any further. But then I remember I did it once before for a news article I wrote for a newspaper. Literally you guys, there were maybe 10 hikers that day, but it was worth every second!!

At the mountain welcome center down bottom I came across these bad boys. OH MY GOD. Who knew?? The gingerbread was my favorite one…I highly suggest it! I felt so mountainy eating it. What?

Have you hiked in the winter before?

Stay tuned for our Boston Blate part dos tomorrow!

Boston Blogger Blate Part 1 !!

I have to split this into 2 posts because 1 is just not enough. In fact, I'll just post about this every day forever because it was just THAT much fun and THAT amazing. Seriously...who'd a thought I'd ever meet such amazing life long best friends on this little website.

This was honestly one of those weekends where every night, I got sad because it was that much closer to when they had to leave.

Where do I begin!? Wednesday, the morning we picked up Shay and DDHP, I was so excited I could barely go to work! And by the time 10pm came around, I wanted to leave for the airport (their flight didn't get in until 11:30 but I was ready!)

It was like bay watch! We ran towards each other like we hadn't seen each other in years! It was actually just over a year since I had last seen these love bugs!

We had Thursday without Sabrina, and the whole day we talked about how we couldn't wait to see her! And found out via instagram she was wearing the hottest neon pants so she would clearly be visible in the airport :-)

After staying up till almost 5 am talking, we went out the next day for a lil tour of our good old area!! As we were driving, Shay and DDHP spotted something so magnificent. A gigantic pile of leaves, seen above. We had to stop! There just ain't leaves like that in good old Texas! We played around in them for a good 45 minutes...jumping in them, canon balling, shalyn losing her shoe, leaves falling into my vajayajay....ya know :-) Pure heaven.

Our next stop, the beach for a sunset!!

We came across THEEEE cutest little puppy named Pebbles and his older brother named Bam Bam! They did NOT want to leave us! How cute is that little nugget though with DDHP?

At this point, we had been texting Sabrina who had been having the travel day from HELL!! Starting at 6am her time, traveling to just about every airport in the country except Boston! But finally found out she'd be arriving around 11:30pm...same time as Shay and DDHP!!

We went to dinner where my best friends since pre-school got to meet the Texans! THAT made me so incredibly happy! After explaining to them a year ago I was flying across country to meet girls on the internet, they finally understood they were not murderers ;-)

So funny story. Back when I went to Texas, Shalyn and Sabs had made me the most amazing sign that said "Howdy Erica Welcome to Texas!" I am such a sentimental person and a saver, that I saved the sign! So we went back to the apartment before picking up Sabrina and wrote on the back of the Texas sign so that Sabby Fresh would have a big huge welcome to Boston party in the airport after her horrendous travel day!

It was like Bay watch all over again as we ran to her so flipping excited she was finally there!! I think I teared up just looking at all of us together with the boys. So effing surreal to see all of us! After MONTHS of planning!

Then we did what every good friend would do, and have a drink waiting for her at the car! Shot-gunning a beer to be exact!

Just writing this first part makes me so sad but so happy at the same time! I love these people to death and am so happy we all got to have this amazing weekend together!

Stay tuned for part 2 where the boys "superman-ed that ho," we saw Blue Man Group and met a Blue Man, and went out for Halloween as Toddlers :-)

AH COME BACK YOU GUYS!!
