I've been having some majah trouble sleeping lately for some reason. The other night I even tried the old counting sheep thing----ya..thanks mom but that still doesn't work! Anyway, I started making mental notes in my head about some upcoming family events, birthdays, etc that are happening in the next few months.
This lead to reading an article I bookmarked on my phone a while back but never got around to read; about making time for the important people in your life.
I’ll be honest, when it comes to the people close to me in my home life and work life, I rarely, if ever, miss a special day in their life. Whether it be a birthday, an anniversary, the day before a big test, I usually remember. I think it all comes down to the fact that I like to make people feel special on days they deserve it; you never know if something so small such as a “good luck,” or “you’re doing amazing” can help someone out the slightest bit.
Over the years, it really has affected me greatly if I ever get in a little tiff with someone and the words “you suck as a friend” come out of their mouth. It leaves me speechless, worried, concerned, and overall sad (You guys...I am such a sensitive sally when it comes to my feelings!!).
I find myself going crazy inside---maybe I missed something? Maybe I didn’t give this person as much care/time as I should? But at the end of the day, I try and convince myself that when people are upset, they say things they don’t mean; I’m a big-time forgiver, but I don’t forget either. In the end, it ultimately makes me a stronger person—people who bring others down are the ones who need the most care, which is exactly what the article I read said. And I'm down for that, I continue to be there for those people.
Anyway, I know this post is kind of blehhh, but I just felt like sharing my feeeeelings! Ya know, I am a real person sometimes and not always silly :-)
Do you feel like you make enough time for the important people in your life?
How are you a good friend?
